Beer and Architecture.

Belgian beers (like Chimay and Duvel) are very popular here.  They are a little expensive sometimes, but especially the big bottles (>500 ml) are quite affordable.  Here you see me having a Chimay in the Sendai Mediatheque (a beautiful piece of modern architecture).

Belgische bieren (zoals Chimay and Duvel) zijn hier heel populair.

In plaats van Hoegaarden ziet men hier  Grisette Blanche.

Many rather "unknown" Belgian beers are sold here.  In the background, you see an add for St.-Feuillien, in Japanese.  Instead of Hoegaarden, Grisette Blanche is sold here in many places.

Colourful Christmas in Sendai

Here are some pictures and a movie of us at Jozenji-dori around Christmas.

This is Jozenji-dori, all lit up!  Dit is Jozenji-dori, volledig verlicht.

Computers...

... tend to crash.  This happens to the best of us.  Sometimes, important data is lost forever.  To prevent this, there is Dropbox: a little program that uploads all the files in your "dropbox" folder to the internet.  The first two gigabytes are for free.  This is more than most people need.

I recommend that everyone try out Dropbox.  It saves you a lot of trouble and it is very pratical to e.g. upload pictures to the internet.

The John Templeton Foundation

Today, my colleague Keita Yokoyama and me got word that our grant application at the John Templeton Foundation was successful!  This highly prestigious grant will allow us to hire two people for our project "Concrete Reverse Mathematics" which encompasses Physics, Mathematics, Logic and Philosophy.  We are extremely grateful to the John Templeton Foundation for giving us this considerable sum to perform our ground-breaking research.
